Hello everyone! Today I will be writing a review on a very emotional book, written by Sharon M. Draper, Out of my mind! Let’s get started!
Melody brooks is a 10 year old girl who can’t talk, walk, take herself to the bathroom, or in other words, she is paralyzed. She just started 5th grade. In 5th grade for melody, they have a subject to talk and communicate with normal people since Melody goes to the class for special people with disabilities. What’s that? So weird right? When school starts, Melody starts her first meeting with normal people in music. Her music teacher didn’t decide who was going to sit beside Melody. Yet, a girl named Rose volunteered to sit beside her. She was really nice to Melody and talked to her like she was a normal person. Usually people don’t talk to Melody like she was a normal person. They talk to her like she was an alien from outer space. So when Rose sat beside her, the two of them became friends. Melody was very excited each day to see Rose. The two of them became closer. When Miss V (Melody’s neighbor who takes care of her and teaches her) wins a writing contest, she takes Melody’s family(Her mom, dad, her little sister Penny) and Rose to the newest aquarium downtown. The next day, Rose gets a new computer. Melody gets jealous and wants a computer of her own. So she and her school aid (Catherine) search up a computer for her. Then they find this amazing computer that’s called the Medi-talker. You have to type a sentence and then it will speak the sentence for you. You can also type up sentences, sort them into groups, save them for later, and then just choose them when you need them. It really helped Melody. After some days, it’s time for Whiz-kids. Whiz-kids is an educational game show. And her school participates in it every single year. Melody studies with Miss V and tries out to be in her school’s Whiz-Kids team. And guess what? She makes it!! Can Melody and her team win the game show, travel ,to Washington DC to win the game there, appear on Good morning america, and go to the White House? Or, will they lose the competition and lose the opportunity of their lifetime?
